BUMS (Bachelor of Unani Medicine and Surgery) is an undergraduate medical degree focused on the traditional Unani system of medicine, which emphasizes natural healing, herbal treatments, and holistic healthcare.

Objective:

The main objective of the BUMS course is to prepare qualified medical professionals in the Unani system of medicine who can serve in healthcare with both traditional knowledge and modern medical understanding.:

  • To produce competent Unani doctors (Hakims) with strong theoretical and clinical knowledge.
  • To provide in-depth understanding of Unani principles, herbal medicine, and holistic healing methods.
  • To integrate traditional Unani medicine with modern medical sciences for better diagnosis and treatment.
  • To develop skills in clinical practice, surgery basics, and patient care.
  • To train students in preventive, promotive, and curative healthcare approaches.
  • To promote research and development in Unani medicine and pharmacology.
  • To encourage graduates to contribute to public health services and community healthcare.
  • To prepare students for roles as teachers, researchers, and healthcare professionals in the AYUSH system.

Eligibility Requirements of Admission:

To get admission in the BUMS (Bachelor of Unani Medicine and Surgery) course, candidates must meet the following basic eligibility conditions:

  • Educational Qualification: Must have passed 10+2 (or equivalent) from a recognized board
  • Subjects required: Physics, Chemistry, Biology (PCB) and English
  • Minimum Marks: General category: Minimum 50% marks in PCB, SC/ST/OBC (reserved categories): Around 40–45% marks (as per norms)
  • Entrance Exam: Qualification in national or state-level entrance exams, such as NEET (in India).
  • Age Requirement: Minimum age is typically 17 years at the time of admission.
  • Medical Fitness: Some institutions may require a basic medical fitness certificate.
